What is this bird's name, and why is it so confusing?
Answer:
This is a Western Tanager. The confusing part is that it is not really a Tanager (family Thraupidae). Instead, it is a member of the Cardinal family, Cardinalidae.
Last night we got a call from our friends Paula and Eldon, asking if I wanted a centipede. Of course, I said "YES!" It is now getting used to its new home, with a handful of mealworms to munch on. Different species of centipede have different numbers of legs, but whether they have 20 pairs or 200 pairs, they all follow one strange pattern. What is it?
